First bite out of Apple’s ‘iPad’

Steve Jobs and the iPad

Media, marketing and Web junkies got their latest jones sated, compliments of Apple’s new tablet computer,  the iPad.

Apple CEO Steve Jobs, in all of his showmanship, introduced the device Wednesday afternoon. (It may not go to market for another month or so.) Jobs called the iPad a “third-category” device that is lies between a smart phone and a laptop.

The 10-inch touch screen delivers video, text and social-networking applications.  There are still many questions about cost (estimates range from $600 to $1,000) and the battery life.

We’ll see if  Apple’s iPad shakes things up in mobile markets the way iTunes rocked the music industry.
